While some scholars caution against over-reliance on technology in sacred contexts, others argue that when used appropriately, AI serves as a facilitator of devotion rather than a replacement for tradition (Qurashi & Sharpley, 2018; Shah, 2024). AI’s role in spiritual enrichment highlights its potential to complement traditional religious instruction while deepening individual reflection. When balanced with the sacred values of Hajj, AI functions not as a substitute for spirituality but as a suppo rtive tool that enhances pilgrims’ understanding and engagement in their rituals. 5. Personalized Pilgrim Experience Every pilgrim’s journey is shaped by individual factors such as age, health condition, prior knowledge, and cultural background. AI enables personalization by tailoring schedules, logistics, and support services to specific needs. For example, elderly pilgrims may receive guidance to perform rituals during less crowded times, while younger and healthier participants are directed toward standard peak hours. Similarly, AI systems can optimize transportation routes, recommend meals based on dietary requirements, and send timely reminders for group activities or appointments (Rahman et al., 2022). Navigation support further reduces disorientation, with AI-powered mobile apps offering step-by-step guidance to ritual sites. By automating routine decision-making and providing customized assistance, AI allows pilgrims to conserve energy for worship while reducing stress. In this sense, personalization is not merely a convenience but a means of safeguarding dignity and ensuring that the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage remains central (Alquayt et al., 2025). Personalization through AI underscores the human-centered dimension of technology in religious contexts. By adapting services to individual needs, AI not only eases logistical burdens but also preserves the dignity and spiritual focus of each pilgrim, ensuring that the diversity of experiences enriches rather than fragments the collective pilgrimage. IMPLICATIONS The conceptual benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) for Hajj pilgrims extend far beyond logistical efficiency. When AI solutions are integrated within the framework of Islamic values and pilgrimage traditions, they have the potential to create a holistic ecosystem that safeguards health, strengthens safety, facilitates communication, and enriches spirituality. At the same time, ethical considerations - particularly those relating to privacy, data security, and the preservation of spiritual authenticity - must be addressed (Qurashi & Sharpley, 2018). The central challenge lies in striking a balance between technological intervention and the sacred nature of Hajj, ensuring that innovation does not compromise the essence of worship (Shah, 2024). The integration of AI into the Hajj experience carries significant implications for multiple stakeholders: 1. For Pilgrims AI technologies provide pilgrims with unprecedented opportunities to navigate the logistical challenges of Hajj while preserving their focus on worship. Wearable devices and mobile applications equipped with AI-driven health monitoring systems can track vital signs such as heart rate, hydration levels, and body temperature. These innovations allow for the early detection of medical risks such as heatstroke and dehydration, which are among the most common health concerns during Hajj (Rahman et al., 2022). By alerting pilgrims and nearby healthcare professionals, AI reduces the likelihood of emergencies escalating into life-threatening situations.
