E-Prosiding Persidangan Serantau Manasik Haji 2025 (MANASIK2025)

MANASIK2025 Putrajaya, Malaysia, 7-8 Oktober 2025 594 The challenges faced during Hajj are multifaceted. Pilgrims come from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, many with varying levels of education and physical ability. Ensuring that each pilgrim understands and performs the rituals correctly while navigating crowded and sometimes hazardous environments is a complex undertaking. Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a cornerstone of modern technological development, offering a timely response to these recurring issues, and have already revolutionized many critical areas including healthcare, transportation, education, and service industries (Vinothkumar & Karunamurthy, 2023). Current advancements in AI technologies, ranging from machine learning and computer vision to natural language processing (NLP) and predictive analytics, offer unprecedented opportunities and emerging new solutions to address these multifaceted needs (Shah, 2024). Applications such as machine learning algorithms in crowd prediction to AI- powered health monitoring systems, the potential applications of AI within the Hajj context are profound. Furthermore, the growing capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) present transformative opportunities for reimagining the Hajj experience in ways that are efficient, inclusive, and spiritually enriching. AI offers possibilities not only to streamline organizational tasks but also to bridge cultural, linguistic, and experiential gaps (Alharbi et al., 2025). This paper conceptually explores and examines the benefits of AI integration for Hajj pilgrims, situating it within broader discourses on technology and spirituality, underscoring its role in enhancing the overall Hajj management and experience. The discussion of this conceptual paper will be focusing on five key areas adapted from Shah (2024): crowd management and safety, health monitoring, multilingual communication, spiritual and educational support, and personalization of the pilgrim experience. It argues that while AI should be integrated thoughtfully to preserve the sanctity of the pilgrimage, its application has the potential to transform the way pilgrims engage with Hajj. By framing AI not merely as a logistical tool but as a holistic enabler of spiritual fulfillment, this study contributes to the broader discourse on technology’s role i n religious practices and mass gatherings. BACKGROUND The integration of technology into the Hajj pilgrimage has become a growing area of scholarly interest, largely due to the scale and complexity of the event. Millions of pilgrims converge annually in Makkah, creating recurring logistical challenges in transportation, crowd control, and healthcare (Alquayt et al., 2025; Shah, 2024). Traditional management strategies, though important, are increasingly insufficient to address the demands of a rapidly expanding pilgrim population. Consequently, researchers have turned to technology-driven solutions, with artificial intelligence (AI) emerging as a promising field for investigation (Shah, 2024). One of the most extensively studied domains is crowd management. Past incidents of overcrowding, particularly during Tawaf and the stoning ritual at Mina, highlight the urgency of developing proactive systems to safeguard pilgrims. AI-based approaches such as predictive analytics, computer vision, and real-time simulations have been deployed in other mass gatherings like sporting events and concerts, demonstrating their applicability to Hajj (Alafif et al., 2025; Shambour & Gutub, 2022; Alquayt et al., 2025). These systems are capable of detecting irregular movement patterns and predicting congestion hotspots, enabling authorities to intervene before accidents occur. Such research underscores the potential of AI to transform crowd management from reactive responses to proactive, data-driven strategies. Healthcare has also received significant attention within the literature, reflecting the physical intensity of Hajj and the risks posed by environmental conditions (Saputra et al., 2025). Heatstroke, dehydration, and cardiovascular illnesses are common concerns. AI-enabled wearables, mobile applications, and decision-support systems offer tools for early diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and rapid emergency response (Rahman et al., 2022; Alquayt et al., 2025). In field hospitals, AI can accelerate patient triage and optimize resource allocation, ensuring that health services remain sustainable even during peak
