CampusNews 018 Workingvisit of TheMinistryof Higher Education toUSIM The Honorable Minister had the opportunity to convey the mandate, that USIM must always be at the forefront and spokesperson in the fight against Islamophobia, curb Islamic radicals, and bring enlightenment regarding the Islamic religion. U SIM received a working visit from the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, on February 1 st , 2023. The Honorable Minister’s delegation was welcomed upon arrival at USIM by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani together with the university management. Accompanying the Honorable Minister are Datuk Dr. Mohd Zabri Yusoff, Deputy Secretary-General (Management and Development), Dato’ Prof. Dr. Husaini Omar, Director General of Higher Education and Mr. Ahmad Rizal Adnan, Deputy Director General of Higher Education (Research and International). The working visit began with a visit to the exhibition hall in the chancellery lobby, where a total of 21 exhibitors from various departments showcased the university’s achievements and innovation projects, including the Mobile Ophthalmologist Clinic Service (Klip Mobile), Quality CPR for Training (Q-Cat), Legal Clinic, Learning Space, Salah Chair Using Electronic Sensor and Global Islamic Games/Halal. During the visit, the minister was briefed by the vice chancellor on the university’s focus and achievements, the university’s main challenges, niche areas, contributions to the community, society, and country, as well as high impact and successful initiatives especially in realizing the agenda “USIM Cemerlang, USIM Disayang”. The aspiration of “USIM Cemerlang, USIM Disayang,” which was inspired by the Vice Chancellor, can be translated as “Excellence is not only for individuals but also holistically”, where USIM citizens need to work in unison to elevate and honour this Naqli Aqli Science Institution as the top-ranked institution university in Malaysia. Four main cores of “USIM Cemerlang, USIM disayang” are Visibility@USIM, Financial Sustainability@USIM, Care@ USIM, Community@USIM. “USIM plays a role in leading similar universities regionally and globally, as well as creating networks in academics, research, and community involvement,” he said. He added that the halal industry, the referral and preaching centre for the disabled (OKU), and Islamic banking are among USIM’s own areas of strength. To establish a reputation and ensure awareness, these strengths need to be emphasised. The Minister reaffirmed MOHE’s willingness to assist USIM in enhancing its strengths, and the success of USIM will have a significant impact on both the higher education sector and the ummah.
