The closing opening ceremony was officiated by the Honorable Senator Dato’ Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Na’im Haji Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), at the Datuk Mohd Shahir Hall, Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia, Bangi. This PPDP Best Practices Symposium is a platform that brings together practitioners of Islamic psycho- spiritual drug rehabilitation centers, counseling practitioners, NGO leaders, academics and representatives from government agencies who are directly and indirectly involved in the treatment and rehabilitation of substance and drug abuse in Malaysia. The main objective of the PPDP Best Practices Symposium is to empower Islamic-based treatment and rehabilitation methods that are being practiced in drug abuse counseling and treatment centers throughout Malaysia. This symposium is jointly organized by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the Selangor Islamic Religious Council, the Asian Center for Research on Drug Abuse (ACREDA) of the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and the Malaysian Association of Drug Addiction Counselors (MADAC). Empowerment of Islamic-based treatment and drugs rehabilition methods “The integration of Naqli and Aqli knowledge is very necessary in the effort to guide, treat and rehabilitate drug abusers and drug patients because it is seen to be able to help self-transformation in understanding the purpose of life in the world and the role and responsibility as the caliph of Allah. The approach in drug treatment and rehabilitation needs to be based on a scientific approach supported by Islamic religious teachings so that it is more strategic and comprehensive and involves all levels of society, government agencies, the private sector, and Islamic Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in order to find the best treatment methods and practices”.
