Japan confersOrder of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays onUSIMLecturer USIMorganized KhatamAl-Quran Ceremony & Iftar Khadimul Haramain A ssociate Professor Dr. Zoraida Mustafa, Dean of Centre for Core Studies, USIM was honored the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays to recognize her outstanding contribution to promoting Japanese language education in Malaysia and mutual understanding between Malaysia and Japan. “This award is an appreciation to all parties especially for Japanese Government and USIM who have given me the opportunity and support to work on building a Malaysia-Japan cooperation network, especially in Japanese language and culture education.” she said in a statement. The Japanesegovernment has recently announced the recipients of theForeign National Imperial Decoration by theEmperor of Japan for the 2023SpringAward in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Japan-Malaysia relations. Also receiving this 2023 Spring Imperial Decoration was Dato’ Wan Latiff Wan Musa, former Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Foreign Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) who was awarded ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon’. Dr. Zuraidawho is also the former Head of Japanese Language and Cultural Centre, Faculty of Major Language Studies USIMhas engaged in various activities to promote Japanese language education andmutual understanding betweenMalaysia and Japan. She has been teaching Japanese language in Ambang Asuhan Jepun, Universiti Malaya since 1996. Upon her transfer to USIM, she initiated the Japanese language unit and served as the Head of Japanese Language and Cultural Centre. Dr Zoraida is also the founder and first Malaysia Japanese Language Instructors Society (MAJLIS) and promoting networking among Japanese language and cultural practitioners. V arious activities were carried out throughout the holy month of Ramadan by the USIM, and among them is the Khatam Al- Quran ceremony and Iftar Khadimul Haramain held at Tuanku Muhriz Islamic Complex (KITM), organized by Islamic Centre and the USIM’s Board of Directors Chairman Office. The program, which started at 2.30 pm, began with the joint activity of packing the iftar meal and was followed by the Forum titled “Al-Quran dan Sunnah Dijunjung Membina Komuniti Sejahtera” withMr. Shamsul HakimAbd Samad and Dr. Nidzamuddin Zakaria, both lecturers at the Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies as a panel. The ceremony then continued with the khatam al-Quran ceremony and breaking the fast, attended by the Deputy Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Malaysia, Dr. Saleh Ali I. Bedaiwi, YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Haji Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, Chairman of the University Board of Directors and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Md Sharaani. Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Md Sharaani, who was met, expressed his highest appreciation and thanks to the Royal Saudi Arabian Embassy in Malaysia, who became the main sponsor by sponsoring 1,000 food packs for this event.
