55 Closing The spread of Islam in Pattani, Southern Thailand, began after Pattani was ceded to Siam/Thailand in 1785 AD. As a result, Pattani began to lose its identity as a country and was no longer recognized as a Malay state or an independent nation. To consolidate Thailand's territory, the Thai authorities ensured that Buddhism was prominently established in the country. In 1927 AD, Haji Sulong bin Abdul Kadir, a Pattani citizen and a Mecca graduate, observed the limited religious knowledge among the Pattani people. Despite various obstacles, Haji Sulong endeavored to spread the teachings of Islam to the Pattani community. BIBLIOGRAPHY Ahmad Falby al-Fatani. (1994). Pangantar sejarah Patani .
