ABSTRACT Infotainment in Indonesia initially aimed to provide information in an entertaining format. However, most infotainment programs now focus on gossip rather than offering useful and educational content. The high frequency and emphasis on gossip in these shows have shifted social norms, normalizing gossip culture and turning it into a form of daily entertainment. Introduction Humans have a natural curiosity about the lives of others, particularly celebrities and public figures, such as politicians or individuals with significant influence in society. This phenomenon is deeply rooted in social dynamics and culture. Interest in the lives of public figures often stems from admiration, a desire to emulate them, or simple curiosity about their personalities. The lives of celebrities and public figures are often seen as fascinating and inspiring. This phenomenon is reflected in the widespread interest in infotainment content. These programs often present news, gossip, and details about the personal lives of celebrities and public figures. One of the highest-rated infotainment shows in Indonesia is Silet , ranked fifth among television programs, with a TVR score of 2.8 and an audience share of 20.9%. According to Elihu Katz’s Uses and Gratifications Theory, this phenomenon can be understood as part of human nature, where individuals intentionally select and use media to meet their needs.
