37 Gaming Revolution Affecting Language Learning. Perhaps it is time to look at the fact that gamification in the life of teenagers is here to stay. As much as the act is pervasive and worrying, it does have it potential positive impact such as how it enhances English vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension (Lui and Wang, 2015). In parallel, Hyun-Joo Kim (2013) explored the experiences of South Korean learners who improved their vocabulary and grammar as well as engaging context for language used. Additionally, online games improve pronunciation and provide motivation for language learning (Lu and Chen, 2018). However, despite its positive impact, gaming has the potential to decrease the motivation for traditional language and formal learning acquisition (Bhadir and Arslan, 2020). Online Game That Facilitates Language Learning. To exemplify some of the commonly played online games that have had the ability to enrich language learning journey are the World of the Warcraft. This popular multiple player online role-playing game requires player to communicate in English to compete quests and interact with other players. Therefore, the players must learn and master the language to be able to compete on the game. Duolingo is a language learning platform that gamified experience that includes lessons and challenges in various languages including English. Game-based approaches game-based learning proved to be effective towards language skills learning, vocabulary and grammar as much as it was connected in an engaging way. A popular sandbox game that facilitates language learning is Minecraft. This game requires players to read and understand the instructions and menu that is driven by storytelling. Minecraft is used by the Cambridge Assessment English so that students can learn the language as they immerse in the game. Another commonly used online game on the internet that can help learners to master English Language is Quizlet. This platform allows educators and students to learn grammar, vocabulary, and other language skills using flashcards, practice tests and games via online quizzes that have proven to be interactive and immersive compared to the traditional method of chalk and talk.
