ABSTRACT Much has been said about the pervasive impact of online game addiction amongst players around the world. The rise of online gaming has dramatically revolutionised the way people interact and engage in digital media. Online games are designed to be engaging and entertaining, but they also have the potential to support language learning. This paper explores the lists of online games that revolutionise language learning that become valuable tools to support English language learning. This potentially have the implications on game designers and educators who are interested to use gamification as language supporting tool. Introduction Online game addiction has a significant impact on English language whether negatively or positively. While playing games can help individuals improve their English language skills, there were concern as to how this addiction can affect the other aspect of being such as quality of life and mental health state due to long hours spent on the game. However, as many games required players to communicate in English, it can be said that this exposure to language potentially improve vocabulary, reading comprehension and conversation skills. Therefore, gaming addiction can have both positive and negative effects on English language learners. While moderate gaming can help improve language skills, excessive gaming can threaten one’s ability to learn and retain information.
