Penerima Ijazah Kehormat 45 World League (Rabitah al-Alam al-Islami), a board member of the Andalusian Islamic University in Cordoba, Spain, and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, a founding member of the International Islamic University Malaysia, a board member of TV Al-Hijrah, Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM), and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA). He was also appointed as a professor and the inaugural holder of the Sheikh Abdullah Fahim Chair at UKM (2008–2012) and held the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Chair at UniSZA. Additionally, he received an honorary degree from UKM and was appointed as Adjunct Professor at several universities, including Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). Throughout his academic career, he has authored 13 books, including Kembara Kehidupan: Dari Atap Rumbia ke Gedung Diplomat, Isu Islam Semasa, Oktober yang Tidak Dinantikan, Pemikiran Dr. Mahathir Tentang Islam, Gagasan Satu Malaysia: Peradaban dan Identiti Bangsa, and Penerapan Nilai-nilai Murni dalam Pentadbiran Awam. He also contributed as a columnist for several newspapers, including Sinar Harian and Utusan Melayu. In 1998, he received the national-level Anugerah Perdana Media Islam Negara (AMIN) and was honoured as the Tokoh Maal Hijrah for the year 1422H/2001. Additionally, he was awarded the Johan Setia Mahkota (J.S.M), the Darjah Dato’ Setia DiRaja Kedah (D.S.D.K.), and the Darjah Gemilang Seri Mahkota Kedah (S.G.M.K.) by His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Kedah. In 2021, he was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.), which carries the title Tan Sri, by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. In recognition of his contributions to the field of language, the Faculty of Major Language Studies (FPBU), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) honoured him “Tokoh Bahasa Arab” as a notable figure in the field of Arabic Language during the World Arabic Language Day celebration on December 18, 2017. Driven by his fondness to Arabic language, Tan Sri Dr. Ismail bin Haji Ibrahim has contributed his expertise, ideas, and wisdom towards the development of Arabic language at USIM, particularly in the inaugural degree programme of the Faculty of Major Language Studies (FPBU), the Bachelor of Arabic Language and Communication with Honours, both directly and indirectly. He is currently appointed as a Visiting Scholar at FPBU, where he shares his experience in education, management, and administration, as well as serves as a reference for the development of the Arabic language and the upcoming new programmes. Tan Sri’s prominence in academia and the professional world has had a significant impact on the development of Arabic as a second language and on community development in Malaysia.
