Penerima Ijazah Kehormat 41 Dato’ Seri Dr. Abdul Aziz’s leadership and contributions have been honoredwith several awards at the federal and state levels. His highest national honor, the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN), was awarded in 1996, granting him the title “Dato’.” His international recognition includes the Henry Ridley Centennial Award in 2014, which acknowledges individual contributions in agriculture or botany. Most recently, he was awarded the Darjah Seri Setia Negeri Sembilan Yang Amat Cemerlang (SSNS) in 2022, granting him the title “Dato’ Seri.” Dato’ Seri Abdul Aziz’s involvement in Islamic leadership began while leading the Muslim Student’s Association (MSA) inWisconsin, USA, in 1971. He served as the executive secretary, responsible for organizing and managing activities focused on Islamic understanding and training for Muslim university students across the United States and Canada. Among his colleagues in the MSA at that time were prominent figures such as the late Dr. Jamal Barzinji and Dr. Mahmoud, who were recognized for their contributions to the development of Islam in the United States. Dato’ Seri Dr. Abdul Aziz’s leadership in managing Islamic organizations was further recognized when he was appointed Chairman of Masjid Jamek Bandar Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, starting in 2023. After his mandatory retirement in 2002, Dato’ Seri Dr. Abdul Aziz continued to contribute his expertise in his hometown as a member of the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS) beginning in 2014. In 2017, he was entrusted as Chairman of Wakaf Muamalat Negeri Sembilan, one of the main portfolios under MAINS’s religious affairs. With his experience and expertise in management, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of MAINS from 2018 to 2020 and was also Deputy Chairman of the Negeri Sembilan Baitul Mal Corporation from 2019 to 2020. His role in planning and administering MAINS drew the attention of DYMM Tuanku Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, who subsequently appointed him as Chairman of MAINS beginning in January 2021, a position he still holds.
