Selain menjadi Ahli Majlis Kebangsaan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam (MKI), beliau juga terlibat sebagai Ahli Jawatankuasa Penasihat Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Tinggi Malaysia, Ahli Panel Pakar Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan serta Pengerusi Panel Penasihat Pelaburan Lembaga Pembangunan Langkawi. Penglibatan beliau dalam pelbagai organisasi mencerminkan sumbangan beliau yang luas kepada masyarakat, menjadikan beliau satu figura penting yang terus memberi inspirasi kepada banyak pihak dalam industri dan sektor awam di Malaysia. Pada Majlis Konvokesyen Ke-22 USIM pada tahun 2024, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar telah diisytiharkan sebagai Pro-Canselor USIM bermula dari tahun 2024 sehingga tahun 2027. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Wahid bin Omar Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Wahid bin Omar was born on January 19, 1964, and now at the age of 60, he has established a solid reputation as a prominent figure in the finance and economics sectors in Malaysia. As a respected leader, Tan Sri Wahid is currently serving as the Chairman of Bursa Malaysia, further cementing his position as a key driver of the country's economic development. This role not only requires expertise in finance but also demands strategic leadership skills to guide Bursa Malaysia’s growth in the capital markets and the global financial ecosystem. Tan Sri Wahid began his formal education in accounting, earning a Diploma in Advanced Accountancy from Luton College of Higher Education in the United Kingdom, which led him to complete the qualifications for becoming a graduate of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK. This qualification laid a strong foundation for his success in the corporate sector, providing himwith in-depth knowledge in financial management and organizational leadership. His professional accounting credentials also paved the way for him to lead key positions in multinational companies and leading financial institutions in Malaysia. His career journey has been shaped by various strategic roles across different sectors, including finance and banking. Since 2020, he has served as Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, and in 2022, he assumed the role of Chairman of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Malaysia, demonstrating his commitment to social responsibility and environmental conservation. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the MySDG Foundation, a foundation established by the Malaysian government to champion sustainable development goals in the country. In the academic and intellectual field, Tan Sri Wahid has made significant contributions. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, UK, since 2019, highlighting recognition of his expertise in Islamic finance and his role in contributing innovative ideas in this field. In Malaysia, he also holds the position of Professor of Practice at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF University), reflecting his dedication to educating the next generation in Islamic finance and sustainability. Tan Sri Wahid has an extensive record of service in the banking and corporate sectors. His past roles include Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (2016 – 2018) and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department responsible for the Economic Planning Unit (2013 – 2016), showing his direct involvement in the country’s economic development. As President and CEO of Maybank from 2008 to 2013, Tan Sri Wahid played a crucial role in making Maybank a competitive financial institution in Southeast Asia and a global leader in Islamic finance. Prior to that, he successfully led UEM Group (2001 – 2004) as CEO, stabilizing the group’s financial position. He also led TelekomMalaysia Berhad (2004 – 2008) as CEO and transformed the group into a regional telecommunications company with a focus on mobile communications services. The recognition Tan Sri Wahid has received reflects his excellence and significant contributions to the country. Among the awards he has received are the Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) award, which conferred him the title of Tan Sri, as well as The Asian Banker’s Leadership Achievement Award for Malaysia in 2013. He also received The Edge Value Creator Award in the same year and was named Malaysia’s CEO of the Year 2006 by Business Times/American Express, an honor recognizing outstanding corporate leadership.
