The esteemed Professor Datin Dr. Che Ilina Che Isahak was born in the state of Che Siti Wan Kembang on January 8, 1952. Shewedded her classmate, the late Professor Dato’ Dr Abd Samad Sakijan, andwas blessed with two children. She commenced her educational journey at Zainab School in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, and later continued at Tunku Kursiah College in Seremban until the sixth form. Subsequently, she pursued her Medical Degree at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, and furthered her studies at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, as well as at Hammersmith Hospital, University of London, specializing in microbiology. She also underwent Virology training at Kings College, London and completed Advance Vaccinology Course in Annecy, France. For over three decades, she dedicated herself to Microbiology and Immunology Department of the Faculty of Medicine and UKM Hospital. Within this span, she held various notable positions including Head of Microbiology Department, Deputy Head of Diagnostic Laboratory Services Department, and Infectious Disease Doctor. Her research focused on infectious diseases, particularly in the realms of vaccinology, epidemiology, and diseases that can be prevented through vaccines such as rubella, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis A, human papillomavirus infections, herpes simplex infections, varicella, dengue, influenza, and meningococcal meningitis. As a contribution to the local community, she managed to get support from the GSK company to supply vaccines to make the hepatitis B vaccine ‘catch up’ program among students in 7 secondary schools in the Klang Valley. At thenational level, ProfessorDatinDr. Ilinaplayedapivotal role in the immunizationprograms, spearheading efforts in surveillance, registration of vaccine and new antiviral agents as per the directives of the Ministry of Health Malaysia. She was instrumental in the implementation of the national Hepatitis B & Rubella vaccination programs andInfluenza Pandemic Preparedness. She also represented Malaysia in both the Asia Pacific Committee of Influenza and the Steering Committee for the Control of Infectious Diseases in Asia. Professor Datin Dr Che Ilina was also appointed by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) to audit several local universities to ensure that learning and teaching standards are adhered to. Professor Datin Dr. Che Ilina is a sought-after speaker, frequently invited to deliver scientific papers and seminars to medical professionals, the public, and even pilgrims, advocating for vaccination during Hajj and Umrah . Her prolific contributions to academia are evident in her impressive portfolio, which boasts nearly 82 journal articles, 20 books, and over 60 presentations at national and international seminars. In recognition of her unwavering dedication, she received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Paduka Setia Mahkota Kelantan (PSK) in 2009, the title of Tokoh Wanita Kelantan 2020 , and Tokoh Akademia Wanita Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 2021. Professor Datin Dr. Che Ilina played a crucial role in the early establishment of FPSK, contributing significantly to the development of microbiology curriculum during her tenure at UKM. Even after retirement, she heeded the call of Professor Emeritus Dato' Nik Nasri and embarked on a new chapter at USIM in January 2011. At USIM, Professor Datin Dr. Che Ilina has significantly amplified research efforts in the realm of Islamic Science. This has been achieved through collaborations with Institut Fatwa SeDunia (INFAD) USIM and Halal Pharmaceuticals, in partnership with the Halal Development Corporation (HDC).
