Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Bin Mohd Perdaus graduatedwith a medical degree (MD) fromUniversiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1989. He then pursued a specialist training in the field of Internal Medicine at UKM and in the year 2000 was awarded a Master Degree in Internal Medicine. In 2003, he successfully completed a sub speciality training in the field of respiratory medicine at UKM. In 2004, he was appointed as Head of Medical Education department while working as a medical lecturer in UKM. He was very active in research and was appointed as a Fellow in Sleep & Circadian Research Group, Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, Sydney, Australia in 2006 and 2007. His credibility as a respiratory physician led to his appointment as the royal physician for the Negeri Sembilan royal family from 2005 to 2006. In 2007, he started serving as a Consultant Visiting Specialist (Internal Medicine and Respiratory) at Ampang Putri Specialist Hospital. In 2009, he left his post in academia as a medical lecturer (Respiratory) to serve as a Consultant Specialist in Internal Medicine (Respiratory and Sleep Medicine) in KPJ Specialist Hospital, Johor Bahru. Since 2003, he was very involved in humanitarian works organised by MERCY. While at MERCY, he demonstrated excellent leadership qualities which led to his appointment as an Exco member in 2003 before finally being appointed as the MERCY Chairman in 2009. He has contributed immensely to MERCY. From 2003 to 2006, he steered MERCY Malaysia’s Drug Rehabilitation and Assistance Programme. Other than MERCY, Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Bin Mohd Perdaus is also involved as a board member of Humanitarian Fund (HIF) and Advanced Training Programme on Humanitarian Action (ATHA). HIF is an international fund set up to facilitate humanitarian activities through networking on cooperation, research and innovation. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Bin Mohd Perdaus is involved in a myriad of humanitarian and medical activities across the globe in many countries including Sri Lanka (2003), Iran (2004), Sudan (2004,2008), Indonesia (2005, 2006), Pakistan (2005), Myanmar (2008), Syria (2013), Filipina (2013) and Turkey (2017). His greatest achievement to mark his humanitarian works was his appointment as the Chairman of the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA). He is the first Asian person to chair the council. This council is part of a three non-governmental organisations (NGO) consortiumwhich are participating in Inter- Agency Standing Committee (IASC). The IASC is the main international body responsible in decision making relating to global humanitarian activities, under the purview of Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Bin Mohd Perdaus is also the Chairman of the International Association of Professionals in Humanitarian Action and Protection (PHAP). This association is the largest international networking organisation consisting of professional individuals participating in humanitarian works.
