Datuk Dr. Baljit Singh Sidhu is a public figure who is well-respected by all levels of society. This is clear from the numerous appointments and recognitions which he has received at both local and international levels. Among others, he was appointed as the representative of the Malaysian Bar to advise the Parliamentary Select Committee in drafting legal provisions of the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code in 2005; the Secretary of Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee from 2011-2012; and on 16 October 2012, he was conferred the honorary award as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) by RPM. In the same year, Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu was also admitted to the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam, the highest court of appeal in the country. At present, Datuk Dr. Baljit Singh Sidhu is one of the Advisors for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM), a post which he has held since 2016, and also the personal advisor to DYMM the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and DYAM the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris ibni Sultan Ibrahim Ismail. He also holds the post of Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Syariah and Law, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and the Faculty of Law and International Relations, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin Terengganu. Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu’s involvement in the Faculty of Syariah and Law, USIM was initiated by Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki Tun Azmi, who was the former Chief Justice of Malaysia and is currently one of the Pro-Chancellors of USIM. Since his appointment as Adjunct Professor in 2014, Datuk Dr. Baljit Singh Sidhu has come across as a very friendly and approachable figure among the staff and students of the Faculty. He is always ready to hand out advice, contribute ideas and assist the Faculty’s efforts to improve the quality of its programmes, particularly the Bachelor of Laws and Shariah with Honours, and regularly conducts talks and discourses on current legal issues at the Faculty. Indubitably, his contribution and endless support to the Faculty have been truly invaluable in the Faculty’s endeavour to emerge as a distinguished and competitive law school among the law faculties of other institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. The strength of character of this year’s illustrious Honorary Doctoral Award recipient can be seen from his own words that reverberate with wisdom and benevolence: “Savour each life process for that is what makes us wiser. Perform each task entrusted to us with positivity, commitment and integrity, and treat each person with kindness and respect, and do not discriminate, for that is the true reflection of the values that we embody.”
