26 Majlis Konvokesyen Khas USIM Atas segala sumbangan cemerlang beliau, Fakulti Pengajian Quran dan Sunnah, USIM telah menganugerahkan Ijazah Kehormat Doktor Falsafah Pengajian Quran dan Sunnah kepada TYT Prof. Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad At-Tayyeb. Pengiktirafan ini bukan sahaja mengeratkan hubungan antara USIM dan Universiti Al-Azhar, tetapi juga memperkukuh imej USIM sebagai sebuah institusi yang menyokong gagasan kesederhanaan dalam Islam dan menentang fahaman radikal serta ekstremis. Semoga dengan penganugerahan ini, hubungan erat antara kedua- dua institusi akan terus berkembang dan membawa manfaat besar kepada umat Islam di seluruh dunia. His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad At-Tayyeb, a revered scholar of unparalleled distinction, was born in the village of Al-Qurna, in the Luxor province, on January 6, 1946. He hails from a venerated Sufi lineage renowned for their noble character and profound knowledge, tracing their ancestry to Al-Hassan Ibn ˤ Ali Ibn Abi Talib RA. His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and Philosophy from the Faculty of Usuluddin at Al-Azhar University in 1969, then completed his master's degree in 1971 followed by a Ph.D. in the same field from the same institution in 1977. Throughout his scholarly pursuit at Al-Azhar, he was mentored by eminent scholars, driven by a lifelong passion to attend their lectures and immerse himself in the principles of education, ethics, and wisdom. His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad At-Tayyeb seamlessly integrated the rigorous curriculum of Al-Azhar with the cultural openness of modern Europe. He studied French at the French Cultural Center in Cairo for five years after completing his studies at the Faculty of Usuluddin and had a solid foundation in English from his pre-university days (1960-1965) and undergraduate years at Al-Azhar. This linguistic prowess enabled him to translate several reference books from French to Arabic. Upon earning his Ph.D., he was appointed a permanent lecturer at Al-Azhar University in 1977, became an Associate Professor in 1982, and achieved full Professorship in 1988. His teaching career extended to various international universities, including the International Islamic University in Islamabad, the Emirates University, Qatar University, and Imam Muhammad bin Sa’ud University in Riyadh. He also served as the Grand Mufti of Egypt in 2002 and was the Rector of Al-Azhar University from 2003 to 2010. On March 19, 2010, he was appointed as the 50th Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, succeeding the late Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sayyid Tantawi, and continues to serve in this esteemed position to this day. Asadedicatedand relentless scholar, SheikhAhmadhasmadesignificant contributions to the academic world at Al-Azhar University and to the Islamic community at large. His recognition is evident through his appointments to various prestigious positions at Al-Azhar University and in Egypt, and he is renowned as al-Imam al-Akbar Sheikh al- Azhar. Since being appointed as Sheikh Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, he has been determined to make Al-Azhar Al-Sharif a global leader, spreading its moderate mission around the world.
