OFFSTONE JAN EDITION 2026

i EDITOR’S NOTE The January 2026 edition of Offstone Bulletin brings together a collection of scholarly reflections that examine the relationship between communication, Islamic values, and peacebuilding within an increasingly interconnected digital world. As global communication ecosystems continue to evolve through technological advancement, algorithmic media environments, and transnational information flows, the ethical dimensions of communication have become more significant than ever. This issue therefore foregrounds the role of Islamic communication ethics as a framework for cultivating dialogue, responsibility, and social harmony. Across the contributions presented in this issue, authors explore how Islamic principles such as tabayyun (verification), truthfulness, respect, and ethical discourse can inform contemporary communication practices. These values are not merely theological ideals but practical guidelines that shape how individuals, institutions, and societies engage with information and with one another. In an era marked by rapid information circulation, digital polarization, and the proliferation of misinformation, the need for responsible communication grounded in ethical principles has become increasingly urgent. Several articles in this edition address the transformation of religious communication in digital environments. The rise of social media platforms and networked publics has expanded opportunities for knowledge dissemination, dialogue, and global engagement. At the same time, these developments introduce complex challenges related to authority, representation, and the responsible interpretation of religious discourse. By examining these issues through interdisciplinary perspectives including media studies, intercultural communication, and Islamic ethics, this volume contributes to ongoing conversations about how communication can support peaceful coexistence in diverse societies. This issue also highlights the importance of intercultural understanding and collaborative engagement in addressing contemporary global challenges. Communication, when guided by ethical awareness and mutual respect, functions not merely as a tool for information exchange but as a bridge that connects communities across cultural, ideological, and geographical boundaries. On behalf of the editorial team, I extend sincere appreciation to all contributors, reviewers, and advisory board members whose dedication has made this publication possible. It is our hope that the insights presented in this issue will encourage thoughtful dialogue, inspire further research, and contribute to the advancement of ethical communication scholarship in both academic and public spheres.
