MAJALAH AL-HIKMAH EDISI 8 | 2020
11 So, when a Muslim has come to know Allah SWT satisfactorily, it is as if he or she has found both the mental devotion and “spiritual taste” together. This is the quality moment that one has reached to Allah SWT. Without following this path, there is no alternative way to complete this mission. When this approach is fully realized, many of its outcomes will be visible. This is because every beneficial thing lies with this knowledge of Allah SWT as mentioned in the Qur’an. Allah SWT says: Have you not seen how Allah SWT has given the example of Kalimah Ṭayyiba ? It is like a sacred tree whose roots are firmly planted (on the ground) and whose branches extend to the sky. It bears fruit at every moment under the guidance of its Lord. Allah gives such examples so that people may take heed. (Surah Ibrahim, 14: 24-25) In short, the result of gaining true knowledge of Allah SWT is so great that it can never be calculated. One of the consequences of such knowledge is that it strengthens the position of slavery towards Allah SWT; which is the highest meaning of one’s obedience. In fact, this idea of slavery signifies the acceptance of His obedience in both internal and external ways. The Knowledge of Allah SWT Reaching to Allah SWT i.e. gaining His knowledge, means gaining the knowledge of His existence and all His attributes; whether it is Jalālī (venerable) or Jamālī (aesthetic). In this way, to acquire knowledge of His existential qualities such as His knowledge, might, will, survival, hearing, seeing, and speaking, and negative qualities that are not compatible with His being. It consists both of knowing all His names and all His deeds. Along with all this, it is a matter of accepting by the heart and feeling them in terms of taste. And it is a matter of more than the knowledge of common sense. Though, rational knowledge is initial to the ma c rifātullah or the knowledge about Allah SWT.
