beliefs equally. In the New Age Movements teachings, one will find terms, such as “chakra”, “reiki”, heaven, hell, good, bad, praiseworthy, blameworthy and others, using the non- Islamic worldviews. When these terms are adopted, they carry with them the philosophies and values of their origins, including their religious connotations. Therefore, these concepts are not in line with the Islamic teachings. Islam does not forbid worldly matters that are unrelated to other religions and do not contradict the Shari‘ah. These things and aspects are permissible for learning and practice by all Muslims, as Allah the Most Powerful created this world for His creations to live in prosperity and harmony. In Surah al- Qasas 28, verse 77, Allah SWT says: “But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters.” Therefore, a Muslim must never confuse any New Age or New Religious Movements with any permissible worldly matters. To the right of this path are other paths, and to the left of it are other paths, and there are men (on these paths) calling those who pass by them. Whoever goes on the other paths will end up in the Fire. Whoever takes the Straight Path will end up in Paradise.” Ibn Mas`ud then recited this verse of Surah al-An’am, chapter 6, verse 153. It is crystal clear here that Islam prohibits the Muslim from following other than the Straight Path. Among the ways or forms of deviation from the Straight Path is by mixing or blending any non-Islamic rituals or spiritual elements to the faith and practice of the Muslims. The New Age and New Religious Movements view the concept of divinity as beyond the comprehension of the human mind and language.
