The Muamalat Newsletter Vol. 2 2023
31 FEM eNewsletter | Dec 2023 In today’s fast-paced business world, data has become the compass for businesses. Questions about sales peaks, product performance, and seasonality have often remained unanswered due to the lack of advanced data analysis tools. Large corporations, privileged with dashboard reporting systems, have surged ahead, while smaller entities have been left with Microsoft Excel as their primary datamanagement tool due to inhibiting investment cost in more advanced data mining systems. The underestimated potential of upgrading data mining capabilities has thus stifled the prospects of insightful analysis. Datamining, a contemporarymethod for extracting insights from vast datasets, reflects our unending quest for knowledge and starkly contrasts the tools such as Microsoft Excel that we commonly use (Attewell et al., 2015). It demonstrates the evolution of our tools, shifting from basic instruments for resource gathering to leveraging sophisticated algorithms and advanced computing systems. Despite the transformation in our tools, our inherent drive to acquire knowledge was never the same. Data mining bridges the past and present, demonstrating our unwavering pursuit of insights and wisdom through ever-evolving tools. In the evolving landscape of modern business, manual data management, predominantly relying on tools like Microsoft Excel, is becoming obsolete due to data complexities and limitations such as errors, time consumption, and inefficiency in handling extensive datasets. In the fast-evolving business world, embracing a data-driven approach is imperative to maintain a competitive edge (Yin et al., 2014). Modern data analysis tools, such as Microsoft Power BI, offer vital features like automation, scalability, and real-time capabilities, enabling businesses to manage large volumes of data efficiently. These tools simplify the process of extracting valuable insights and trends from data, making the shift from traditional manual methods to advanced platforms like Power BI a necessity. This evolution is not merely a choice but a fundamental requirement in today’s market. Embracing these tools ensures organizations can make informed, data-driven decisions efficiently, making traditional manual data management practices obsolete. Among the various tools available, Power BI stands out as an invaluable asset, significantly reducing the risk of human errors and saving considerable time in comparison to manual processes (Ferrari & Russo, 2017). Its advanced capabilities not only streamline data processing but also empower businesses by enabling the creation of interactive dashboards and real-time data visualizations. Power BI proves to be a robust solution, addressing the limitations of conventional methods such as Microsoft Excel (Ferrari & Russo, 2017). Tailored specifically for financial professionals, it offers a wide array of features that facilitate the creation of interactive dashboards, generation of real-time data visualizations, and in-depth analysis. This real-time functionality is particularly crucial for business and financial experts who rely on up-to-the-minute insights for tasks such as market trend analysis, investment decision- making, and evaluating portfolio performance. Power BI simplifies data sourcing, automates data updates, and simplifies complex data preparation through various transformations. Additionally, its advanced analytics capabilities, including forecasting and trend analysis, empower organizations to make decisions based on historical data and predictive modelling. In the fast-paced business sector where market conditions fluctuate swiftly, real-time data visualization and analysis play a pivotal role. Access to real-time data enables executives to monitor and promptly respond to market changes, breaking news, and economic events. This agility leads to improved investment decisions, enhanced risk management, and the ability to capitalize on lucrative opportunities. Furthermore, real-time analysis strengthens efforts in fraud detection by identifying unusual patterns and discrepancies in real time, thus averting potential financial losses. It also facilitates compliance with evolving regulations and regulatory reporting standards. Embracing real-time data visualization and analysis is integral to enhancing an organization’s competitiveness, enabling well-informed decisions, and ensuring swift responses to shifting market dynamics, ultimately fostering success and growth (Toasa et al., 2018). In the realm of data analysis, users often encounter common challenges such as data integration complexities, intricate calculations, visualization design issues, and performance optimization hurdles DataAnalysis Tools: PioneeringSuccess inModern Business Authors: Muhammad Alageswaran Muniandy 1 and Richard Seow 2 1 Universiti Utara Malaysia 2 Mantissa College / Pole Paris Alternance (PPA) Business School
