ABSTRACT COMPILATION - EduGC 2025

87 / 87 ABSTRACT: In today’s generation, many young children show little appreciation for history, often viewing it as boring, irrelevant, or unimportant. This disinterest can lead to a gradual loss of cultural identity, repeated mistakes from the past, and a lack of critical thinking or civic awareness. To address this problem, our team has developed Echoes of Malaya , a historical-themed game that aims to educate and inspire young players through engaging gameplay and meaningful storytelling. Set during the Japanese occupation of Malaya, Echoes of Malaya transports players into the heart of wartime struggles. It highlights the untold stories of resistance fighters and everyday citizens who showed courage and resilience in the face of oppression. The game focuses on historical accuracy, presenting real events and settings in an immersive way that encourages players to connect emotionally with the past. Players can take on different roles — such as villagers, soldiers, or spies — each offering a unique experience and perspective on history. One of the game’s key features is its interactive storytelling. Players make narrative choices that affect the outcome of the game, helping to build decision- making and critical thinking skills. The environment itself acts as a silent narrator, visually reflecting the devastation and resistance of the era. Additionally, educational elements are subtly embedded into the gameplay, allowing players to learn without feeling like they are in a classroom. The target audience for Echoes of Malaya includes students aged 13 to 18, especially those who struggle to connect with traditional history lessons. The game can also be used as an educational tool by teachers or integrated into school history programs. By making history interactive and relatable, Echoes of Malaya hopes to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and foster a greater appreciation for the stories of the past.
