ABSTRACT COMPILATION - EduGC 2025
2 / 87 ABSTRACT: Pharmacology examines how medications interact with biological systems, whereas pharmacotherapy focuses on the clinical application of these medications in disease management. Despite being foundational disciplines within the pharmacy curriculum, student performance in pharmacology and pharmacotherapy consistently lags behind other subjects, as reflected in our internal assessments (i.e., midterm tests and final examinations) (Figure 1.1). This gap underscores the need for more engaging and effective learning tools. Figure 1.1: The rationale of project Although conventional resources such as textbooks and flashcards exist, there is a notable lack of gamified or game-based activities tailored to support pharmacology and pharmacotherapy education. To address this, this project aimed to design an interactive game-based activity for Year 2 pharmacy students at Universiti Malaya, enrolled in the Pharmacotherapy for Immune Disorders course for Semester 1, 2025/2026, to enhance student engagement, learning experience and performance. The digital flashcards were integrated into an interactive storyline using the GDevelop 5 platform. It is built on core mechanics: level progression, life-based incentives and leaderboard rankings to foster engagement and friendly competition. Players navigate goal-oriented challenges and receive visual progress cues while working through pre- and post-quizzes that reinforce learning. Surprise rewards, such as TnG vouchers for top performers, heighten motivation. Personalized learning is encouraged through the 3R concept: Recap, Revise, and Recall, using flashcards and a self-paced format where users can restart upon losing lives. Real-time feedback and post-game performance summaries offer immediate insight and track progress. To deepen engagement, this game integrates storytelling and immersive environments that mirror traditional gaming worlds. This game is published online using web access and no installation or password is required for mobile or desktop access. Together, these elements promote a dynamic, learner-centered experience that balances challenge, self-paced learning, and enjoyment, which is ideal for driving sustained educational impact.
