USIM POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

1. The English language proficiency competency requirements for students enrolled in research mode programmes, whether the thesis is written in English or Malay , are as follows: • MUET / UEPT: Minimum Band 3; or • IELTS: Minimum Band 5; or • TOEFL: 180 (Computer-Based) or 64 (Internet-Based). 2. The English language proficiency competency requirements for research mode students who write their thesis in Arabic are as follows: • MUET / UEPT: Minimum Band 2; or • IELTS: Minimum Band 4; or • TOEFL: 150 (Computer-Based) or 52 (Internet-Based). 3. The English language proficiency competency requirements for students enrolled in coursework mode or mixed mode programmes are as follows: • MUET / UEPT: Minimum Band 3; or • IELTS: Minimum Band 5; or • TOEFL: 180 (Computer-Based) or 64 (Internet-Based). 4. The English language proficiency competency requirements for students enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Education (DPPPI) are as follows: • MUET / UEPT: Minimum Band 2; or • IELTS: Minimum Band 4; or • TOEFL: 150 (Computer-Based) or 52 (Internet-Based). 5. For students enrolled in the Diploma in Islamic Judicial and Advocatory Practice (DIJAP) programme , the English language proficiency requirement is not specified in the relevant programme standards. Notes: • Any changes to the English language proficiency competency requirements are subject to the standards stipulated for each programme of study. • The University English Proficiency Test (UEPT) is an English language competency test conducted by the University as an alternative for Malaysian postgraduate students only. 6. Notwithstanding the provisions stated in Sub-regulations 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, all requirements are subject to the prevailing standards of the respective programmes. 7. The equivalency of English language proficiency competency shall be as specified in the New English Language Proficiency Equivalency Score Table (CEFR). 8. An applicant who does not fulfill any of the criteria under regulations English Language Proficiency will be allowed to register corditionally and is required to fulfill any of the criteria under regulations within 12 months (for Master’s students) and 24 months (for Ph.D. students).
